TD’s Extra Point: A Thriller in the Desert

09/13/2011

The Arizona State-Missouri game was a thriller from the viewpoint of the 70,000 fans who participated in the blackout at Frank Kush Field last Friday night. ASU’s new uniforms and new logo were the talk of the stadium before, during and after the team’s 37-30 OT victory. Generally the young people really loved them, while some of the older folks think they are too big of a move from the past and Sun Devil tradition. Whatever they wear, ASU is a talented team that has a real shot at winning the Pac-12 South division thanks to speed all over the place on both sides of the ball.

For Mizzou, QB James Franklin was terrific in defeat. As just a sophomore, he will guarantee the Tigers some very good teams in the years ahead.

Next Up

Andrew Luck and Stanford down in Tucson Saturday night. Look for the Wildcats to really pressure the best pro prospect at QB in the country. If Arizona can win this game nobody will remember who they were soundly beaten by last week. Lose this one though and they will be looking down the barrel at Oregon coming to town the following week. The season could turn disastrous very fast with the difficult early schedule the Wildcats have.

One for the Ages

The Michigan-Notre Dame game will go down as a CLASSIC. No doubt about it, we will be seeing it over and over again for years! But was it good sound football or terrible defensive play by both teams? Not sure of the answer myself. Let me know what you think!

–Terry Donahue, Westwood One

Westwood One’s coverage of Arizona vs. Stanford will begin on Saturday night at 10:15 PM Eastern. John Tautges and Terry Donahue will have the call from Tucson.
