Q: Steve P. (Portland, OR) – Hello Mark, I listen often, but this is not a football question. I have wondered through the years, if you remember our meeting. You were in the airport returning from your honeymoon (I think that’s what you told me), and I was going to my father’s funeral in Pennsylvania. I came over and sat beside you, and asked if anyone had ever told you you look like Tom Selleck. You shared your story about returning home to your father’s funeral while you were at Arizona State. I want to tell you that I have always had respect for you, and never forgot that chance meeting. I asked what you did, and you simply said you work in Pittsburgh. That was in May. In August, I was watching a pre-season game and saw a close-up of you on the sideline. I could hardly believe my eyes. There was the man I talked with in the airport playing quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers! Work in Pittsburgh!! So, I want to thank you for your time as a Steeler, your broadcasting skills, and for being such a humble man.

My best to you and your family,
Steve P.

A: Steve, I do vaguely remember that meeting. Thank you for your kind words. As I reflect, it seems I may have thought our conversation and my relating to you my experience of losing my father could lose some impact if I revealed my position as quarterback of the Pittsburgh Steelers. It is nice, however, to know that I touched your life in some small way. Thanks for taking the time to contact me and Go Steelers!
