TD’s Extra Point: An Earth-Shaking Classic in Stillwater

11/09/2011

Saturday’s game between Oklahoma State and Kansas State was as good as I have seen all year. No one, including me, had much hope for a competitive game, much less a classic. Yes, I said classic. Those two programs can play in a classic; it doesn’t always have to be Oklahoma and Nebraska.

Going in, everyone wondered how K-State could possibly stay with the Cowboys after being blown out by Oklahoma just a week before. But somehow Bill Snyder got his team to produce 45 points and had them on the verge of putting the game into overtime before time ran out. How did Coach Snyder do that? I am telling you, the guy gets as much out of his talent as ANYONE in college football.

Congratulations to Mike Gundy and Oklahoma State as well for going 9-0 for the first time since Adam and Eve were penalized for excessive celebration!! The Cowboys are great to watch and have done a remarkable job building a tremendous football program. Thanks to Boone Pickens’ generosity, their facilities are spectacular. Everyone that works on game day is sooo friendly and proud of OSU. And who has better facilities than OSU?? Somebody might have as good but NOBODY, and I mean NOBODY, has better.

I first went to Oklahoma State in 1967 when I was an assistant at Kansas. I needed John Tautges, my great play-by-play partner, to remind me three times during the broadcast where the heck I was. That was not the Oklahoma State that I visited in 1967.

I Feel the Earth Move Under My Feet:

Someone said there was an earthquake before, during or after the game. I am from California and whatever they were talking about that supposedly happened, I am here to tell you that it wasn’t an earthquake. If you want a real earthquake experience you have to go to California. Everyone knows that Oklahoma can’t have an earthquake, right?

Into the Blue:

This week, another great game at Boise State, where the Broncos will take on a very solid TCU squad. If Chris Petersen’s team wins and then goes through the rest of the season unbeaten, will they finally get to the BCS National Championship Game? I think not. As I’ve said before, I think the BCS will let them play in *one* of their games again, but not the Championship Game. First things first though: they need to beat the Horned Frogs in a rematch of the 2010 Fiesta Bowl.

– Terry Donahue

Terry and John Tautges will re-visit the Blue Turf for the second time this season, after watching Boise State beat Nevada last month. Coverage of Boise St.-TCU begins at 3 PM Eastern on Westwood One Sports.

Terry Donahue’s Extra Point: The Kickoff Classic

06 September 2012
The Chick-fil-A Kickoff Classic was once again an outstanding event to open the college football season. Westwood One’s game that I called between Clemson…
