Q: Paul R. (Duluth,MN) – On replay decisions, I have trouble with super slo-mo looks, which do not match how one’s eyes work. The talk is to get the call right, but the human element is lost when replay does what eyes can’t. I believe replays should be displayed for challenges only at normal speed. What do you think?

A: I understand how you might feel cheated by the super slo-mo, but it is the job of the replay official to get the call correct. There are more cameras at Monday Night Football and Sunday Night Football than on the afternoon games, so that has an effect too, but in the end, we want the best chance to get the calls correct and that includes using slo-mo looks. The on-field officials generally do a great job, but if we have replay on the in-stadium jumbo screens for viewing, the refs need to be able to correct errors when they see them. Plus, heaving that little red challenge flag gives the head coach something to do on game day.
