SAN FRANCISCO – Kyle Williams’ fumble on a punt return set the New York Giants up for the winning field goal in overtime of Sunday’s NFC Championship Game, giving New York a 20-17 victory of San Francisco and setting up a rematch with the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLVI.
Both Eli Manning and Alex Smith threw for two touchdowns in regulation, before Lawrence Tynes’ game-winning 31-yard field goal sent the Giants to Indianapolis.
The Patriots and Giants met famously in Super Bowl XLII, with New York winning in dramatic fashion to end New England’s hopes for a perfect 19-0 season.
