AUGUSTA, GA – A near-disqualification of the world’s top-ranked player, an epic meltdown at the 18th and a late stumble by Tiger Woods were part of a strange opening round at The 2012 Masters.
Lee Westwood avoided such calamities and owns the lead after 18 holes, after firing a 5-under 67. Louis Oosthuizen and Peter Hanson are tied for second, each at 4-under par. Defending Masters champion Charl Schwartzel finished with an even-par 72, while Phil Mickelson carded a 2-over 74.
