PGA Championship Final Round: Rory McIlroy wins second major

08/12/2012

KIAWAH ISLAND, SC — Rory McIlroy continued his ascent to the top of the golf world on Sunday, finishing off a record-breaking PGA Championship victory with a bogey-free final-round 66 to finish at -13 for the tournament.

McIlroy rolled in a long birdie putt on the 18th hole to seal victory and send the crowd gathered at The Ocean Course on Kiawah Island into a frenzy.

McIlroy finished eight shots clear of the field to break Jack Nicklaus’ mark for the biggest winning margin at a PGA Championship. Jack won by 7 in 1980 at Oak Hill Country Club, the site of next year’s PGA.

The win is the 23-year-old’s second victory in a major, following his win at last year’s U.S. Open at Congressional. The Northern Irishman also blew away the field in that event — finishing eight shots better than anyone else in that one too.

Little-known Englishman David Lynn finished second at -5 at The Ocean Course. Tiger Woods ended the week at -2 after a final round of even-par 72.
