LONDON – The U.S. women’s 4 x 100-meter relay team made extremely quick work of the finals in London on Friday night, slashing more than a half-second off of a world record that had stood for 27 years.
In fact, the record was so old, the country that set it doesn’t exist any more. Allyson Felix, Tianna Madison, Bianca Knight and Carmelita Jeter finished in 40.82 seconds – .55 faster than the 41.37 run by East Germany in 1985.
After the race, the team spoke with our Steve Futterman.

In the other relay final on Friday, the American men’s 4 x 400-meter team started strong but was passed by the Bahamas down the stretch and had to settle for silver.
