Water Polo: U.S. women capture the gold

LONDON – The U.S. women’s water polo team won its first-ever gold medal Thursday, downing Spain 8-5 in the final.

Maggie Steffens scored five more goals for the Americans to up her tournament-leading total to 21, while goalkeeper Betsey Armstrong made a string of outstanding saves.

The Americans took a 3-2 lead midway through the second period and never looked back, capturing the gold after ending with silver in 2000 and 2008 and bronze in 2004.

After the victory, several members of the U.S. squad spoke with our Ted Emrich.

Highlights: Russians dominate women’s figure skating

As everyone predicted, the women’s figure skating competition in PyeongChang came down to a pair of Russians: 15-year-old Alina Zagitova and 18-year-old Evgenia Medvedeva.
