NEW ORLEANS, LA – The fifth-seeded Louisville Cardinals will face off against perennial NCAA women’s basketball power UConn in the championship game Tuesday night, after head coach Jeff Walz’s squad knocked off Cal in the semifinal to keep their run alive. Louisville climbed back from ten down at the half to beat the Golden Bears, making them the lowest-seeded team to ever reach the championship.
It will be the second championship game in two days for Louisville, which saw its men’s team defeat Michigan on Monday night. If the Cardinal women repeat that feat, Louisville will become just the second school to win the men’s and women’s championships in the same year, joining Connecticut in 2004.
Ahead of the game, Debbie Antonelli caught up with Louisville coach Jeff Walz to talk about his team’s magical tournament.
