OMAHA, NE – UCLA took advantage of two LSU miscues and got great pitching to win its opener at the College World Series by a final score of 2-1 on Sunday night.
LSU started the scoring with a Mason Katz home run, but the Bruins answered with an RBI sac fly off the bat of Eric Filia to plate Brian Carroll, whose bunt single had taken him to second base after a Tigers throwing error.
In the 8th inning, UCLA scored again as Filia’s grounder to shortstop was missed, which allowed pinch running Christoph Bono to score what would become the winning run.
Kevin Kugler and John Bishop called the action.
