PITTSBURGH – It was a tale of one great debut and one that was not-so-great as Florida State downed Pittsburgh 41-13 on Monday night at Heinz Field.
First, the good. Redshirt freshman Jameis Winston dominated in his first start as the Seminoles quarterback, completing 25 of 27 passes for 356 yards and four touchdowns. He also rushed for another score. Tight end Nick O’Leary caught three of those TD passes.
On the other side of the ball, Pitt’s first game as a member of the ACC didn’t go so well. After taking a 7-0 lead early, the Panthers lost momentum as quarterback Tom Savage threw a pair of interceptions that led to Florida State touchdowns. The Seminoles led 28-10 at the half and never looked back.
John Sadak and Derek Rackley called the action.
