Our 2013 NCAA Football schedule continues Saturday from the Cotton Bowl as Texas takes on Oklahoma in the Red River Rivalry. We’ll have complete coverage beginning at 11:30 AM Eastern on our WestwoodOne affiliates coast-to-coast and streaming live right here on WestwoodOneSports.com!
To get you ready for the game, our analyst Tim Brown, who will call the game, filed this scouting report on the Longhorns and the Sooners.
Scouting Report: A couple weeks ago prior to when I did the Texas-Kansas State game, I said to myself that Texas didn’t have a chance against Oklahoma. But then Texas played pretty decent in the Kansas State game and won. Meanwhile, Oklahoma went up to Notre Dame, and while they won by 14, I was there and it just didn’t seem as if the Sooners were a dominant football team. That got me to thinking, does Texas have a chance in this game? And I think they do. This Oklahoma team is solid, but they’re not an explosive football team. That gives Texas a chance.
Player I’ll Be Watching: Oklahoma quarterback Blake Bell. He can run the ball and he makes the little dink and dunk throws, but any time he had to throw the ball more than five yards down the field up at Notre Dame, he had a very difficult time. He was missing receivers by several yards. I’m curious to see how he performs at the Cotton Bowl.
What the Longhorns need to do to win: Texas needs to come out and get on the board early to put the pressure on Blake Bell and the Oklahoma offense. If the Longhorns can find a way to shift the pressure to the Sooners early, they’ve got a chance.
What the Sooners need to do to win: As the favorites, Oklahoma has to hit the gas early and take Texas out of the game. Don’t let the Longhorns hang around and gain confidence. They also need a big performance from Blake Bell.
