SAN FRANCISCO – NaVorro Bowman made one of the great plays in the history of Candlestick Park – on one of the final plays in the history of the stadium – as the San Francisco 49ers clinched a playoff spot with a 34-24 victory over Atlanta in the final regular season game at the historic venue.
Trailing by three, the Falcons were driving for what would’ve been a go-ahead touchdown when the 49ers linebacker latched onto a deflected pass and rumbled 89 yards the other way for a touchdown to put the Niners into the playoffs.
San Francisco had led by 10 points earlier in the fourth quarter, but a Tony Gonzalez touchdown catch and an onside kick recovery put Atlanta in position to take the lead back.
Kevin Harlan and Dan Fouts called the action on WestwoodOne Sports.
