Countdown to Sochi: Alex Ovechkin of Team Russia

While Team USA and Team Canada played for the gold in Vancouver four years ago, Team Russia was on the outside looking in, suffering an embarrassing 7-3 loss to the Canadians in the quarterfinals.

But this year, with one of the biggest stars in the game in Alex Ovechkin, and the support of the home crowd, Russia hopes to earn its first medal since the 2002 Salt Lake City Games.

As everyone predicted, the women’s figure skating competition in PyeongChang came down to a pair of Russians: 15-year-old Alina Zagitova and 18-year-old Evgenia Medvedeva.
