SOCHI, Russia – Team USA’s attempt to win a first ice hockey gold medal since the 1980 Miracle on Ice in Lake Placid came to a disappointing end on Friday at the Bolshoy Ice Dome as Canada came away with a 1-0 semifinal win.
The lone goal of the game came courtesy of Jamie Benn, who scored off a redirect in the second period. Goalie Carey Price did the rest, stopping 31 shots as the Canadians advanced to take on Sweden in Sunday’s gold medal game.
The Americans will face Finland in the bronze medal game on Saturday.
After Friday’s game, our Steve Goldstein and Bret Hedican caught up with two of Canada’s brightest stars.
