OMAHA, NE – Vanderbilt outlasted Texas to reach their first CWS finals in school history. With plenty of action, including eighteen combined hits, the game seemed destined for extra innings. The Commodores scored in the bottom of the first to get things started on a John Norwood RBI single. They added another run in the third thanks to two Longhorn errors in the inning. But Texas came back to tie the game 2-2 in the fourth on a bases-loaded 2-RBI single by Kacy Clemens. Both teams added another run pushing the 3-3 game into extra innings.
In the bottom of the tenth, with the bases-loaded, Virginia’s Tyler Campbell hit the infield RBI single that ended the game and moved the Commodores in the finals. The best-of-three Championship Series between Vanderbilt and Virginia begins Monday night.
Kevin Kugler and John Bishop called the action from TD Ameritrade Park.
