OMAHA, NE – Great pitching to start the game from both teams led to four and a half scoreless innings. Virginia broke the stalemate with one run on three hits in the bottom of the fourth. Ole Miss tied it up playing small ball in the eighth, but it was Virginia’s Mike Papi that ended the tie, and the game, with a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Cavaliers starting pitcher Nathan Kirby completed seven innings giving up just one hit in the 2-1 win that moves Virginia into Tuesday’s winners bracket game against TCU.
Kevin Kugler and John Bishop called the action from TD Ameritrade Park.
