NEW YORK, NY – Westwood One Sports has added the International Series game between the Detroit Lions and Atlanta Falcons to the broadcast schedule on Sunday, October 26th.
The contest will air in a special broadcast window, with a 9:00 AM Eastern air time, and serve as a lead-in to our Sunday afternoon doubleheader and Sunday Night Football, marking an unprecedented quadrupleheader of NFL action.
It is the first time that the NFL has scheduled a quadrupleheader prior to the beginning of the season, but will mark the second year in a row that Westwood One has managed back-to-back-to-back-to-back NFL broadcasts in a single day.
In Week 5 of the 2013 season, a scheduling conflict between the Oakland A’s and Oakland Raiders forced a late-night start at the O.co Coliseum and we brought listeners that game following our normal Sunday afternoon doubleheader and Sunday Night Football. Here’s a throwback to that day to get you excited for this year’s quadrupleheader.
Our broadcast day on October 6th, 2013 began with a great matchup between the Indianapolis Colts and the eventual Super Bowl champions, the Seattle Seahawks.
Dave Sims had the call as Donald Brown’s touchdown run in the fourth quarter gave Andrew Luck and the Colts a lead they wouldn’t relinquish. The loss was Seattle’s first of the year – and they wouldn’t lose again until December 8th.

The fun continued in Arlington in what would go down as one of the wildest games of the 2013 NFL season, as the Denver Broncos defeated the Dallas Cowboys 51-48 at AT&T Stadium.
Chuck Cooperstein and Trent Green had the call as Tony Romo’s interception in a tie game late in the 4th quarter set the Broncos up with a short field. Matt Prater’s field goal as time expired sealed a victory and moved the Broncos to 5-0 on the season.

After a pair of classics, something had to give – and in the case of Sunday Night Football, that something was the Houston Texans.
Kevin Kugler had the call as San Francisco took a 7-0 lead on Tramaine Brock’s interception return for a touchdown. After that, the Niners never looked back, crushing the Texans 34-3. It was the third loss in a row for Houston after a 2-0 start – and they wouldn’t win again, finishing the year 2-14 and carrying a 14-game losing streak into the 2014 season.

Our quadrupleheader came to a close on the West Coast, where a kickoff after 8 PM Pacific, meant a late night (or early morning, depending on your perspective) for our New York-based studio crew. In the end, the wait was worth it as Oakland defeated San Diego 27-17 in a good contest between AFC West rivals.
Tom McCarthy and Rod Woodson had the call as DJ Hayden’s interception sealed a Raiders victory.
