HARTFORD, CT – SMU wasn’t leaving their NCAA Tournament hopes to an at-large bid this year.
A year after having their bubble burst on Selection Sunday, the Mustangs earned an automatic bid by defeating UConn 62-54 in the American Athletic Conference title game on Sunday afternoon.
Markus Kennedy scored 15 points to lead the way. The victory dashed Connecticut’s hopes of earning its way back into the NCAA Tournament to defend its national championship.
