This week’s AutoZone “In the Zone” College Basketball Player of the Week is Fred VanVleet.
Westwood One NCAA Basketball host Jason Horowitz filed this report:
“Wichita State doesn’t get to play Kansas often – it was 22 years since the in-state rivals had met before Sunday’s clash in Omaha – but Fred VanVleet and the Shockers made it count. VanVleet led the way with 17 points, six rebounds and six assists as Wichita State downed the Jayhawks 78-65 to reach the Sweet 16 for the first time since their Final Four run in 2013. He also added four steals in the win. Of course, that performance was the junior guard’s second great one of the weekend. He dropped 27 on Indiana in the second-round victory that set up the big meeting with Kansas. The Shockers are now headed to Cleveland where they could end up with a chance to wreck Kentucky’s perfect season – just like the Wildcats did to the Shockers a year ago, and they wouldn’t be in this position without Fred VanVleet. That’s why he’s our Player of the Week.”
Fred VanVleet was definitely “In the Zone” and he’s our AutoZone College Basketball Player of the Week.
