HOUSTON – Przemek Karnowski finished with 18 points and eight rebounds to help Gonzaga pull away from UCLA for a 74-62 win in the NCAA South Regional Final. The Zags, 35-2, reached the Elite Eight for the first time since 1999 and pulled within one win of its first Final Four appearance.
Trailing 35-28 at intermission, UCLA scored the first six points of the second half to draw within 1, but the Zags responded with an 18-3 run and took its largest lead of the contest, 53-37, with 9:19 to play. UCLA shot just 38 percent for the game, and hit 3 of 13 3-point attempts.
Byron Wesley scored 14 points, Domantas Sabonis netted 12 for Gonzaga, and Kevin Pangos added 10.
