SYRACUSE, N.Y.- Travis Trice scored 24 points and Denzel Valentine added 18 to lead seventh-seeded Michigan State to a 62-58 Sweet Sixteen upset of No. 3-seed Oklahoma.
The Sooners led by four at the break, 31-27, but from the time the Spartans knotted the score at 39, the lead see-sawed until a dunk by Matt Costello staked MSU to a 48-47 advantage with 6:41 to play. The lead was never relinquished despite Oklahoma playing within a single possession in the final minute. Michigan State hit its last six free throw attempts to ice the game down the stretch.
Ian Eagle and P.J. Carlesimo called the action on Westwood One Sports.
