PORTLAND, OR – Utah overcame an early eleven-point deficit to tie the game up at halftime and then proceeded to slowly but surely pull away from Georgetown en route to a 75-64 win and a spot in the Sweet 16 Saturday night.
The Hoyas’ L.J. Peak led all scorers with 18 points, but Utah’s 57% three-point and overall shooting percentage enabled the Utes to overcome Peak’s output by spreading the points around. All told, five Utah players scored 10 points or more in the win.
Utah hasn’t made it past the opening weekend since 2005, and until this year, hadn’t made the tournament since 2009. The Utes will face the winner of Sunday’s Duke-San Diego State game next Friday in Houston.
Wayne Larrivee and Mike Montgomery called the action on Westwood One Sports.
