JACKSONVILLE -Rarely do a coach and his son have the fortune of sharing the bond currently on display between Georgia State coach Ron Hunter and his son and star guard R.J. In this 2015 NCAA Tournament, the Hunters are enjoying a magical ride into Saturday’s third-round game against Xavier.
In celebration following a conference championship win, Coach Hunter tore an Achilles’ tendon, confining him to a cast and rolling chair during Thursday’s second-round tilt with No. 3-seed Baylor. Not to be deterred by the Bears’ lofty seed, R.J. scored 16 points with a dramatic game-winning 3-pointer that ignited another celebration, this one knocking dad off his chair and onto the floor.
Donny Marshall caught up with the Hunters ahead of the game.
