Manchester City defeated Queens Park Rangers by a gaudy 6-nil on Sunday to condemn QPR to relegation. The Hoops will be joined in the Championship by Burnley, whose 1-0 win over Hull wasn’t enough to save them from the drop.
The defeat for Hull leaves the Tigers in the bottom three with just two games to play. Sunderland and Newcastle are two points ahead on 36 points, though the Black Cats have three games remaining with a game-in-hand to come against Arsenal prior to the final round of fixtures on May 24th.
Elsewhere, champions Chelsea played out a 1-1 draw with Liverpool that severely dents the Reds’ Champions League aspirations. Manchester United’s 2-1 win over Crystal Palace has the Red Devils six points clear of Liverpool for fourth spot with only two games to play.
