OMAHA, NE – Brandon Waddell threw seven innings of two-hit baseball, then got help from Josh Sborz to get out of a jam as Virginia beat Florida 1-0 Monday night at the College World Series.
The Cavaliers got their lone run on an RBI sacrifice fly from Robbie Coman in the sixth, then held the Gators at bay in the eighth. Florida had runners on the corners with nobody out after Waddell gave up a walk and a single to start the inning. Sborz entered the game and retired the next three batters to keep Virginia ahead.
Virginia is now a win away from a return to the championship series for the second straight season. Florida will take on Miami in an elimination game on Wednesday night.
Kevin Kugler and John Bishop called the action from TD Ameritrade Park.
