OMAHA, NE – For the second straight year, Vanderbilt and Virginia are going to a winner-take-all deciding game at the College World Series as the Cavaliers downed the Commodores 3-0 on Tuesday night.
Adam Haseley and Josh Sborz combined to shut out Vandy, allowing just seven hits along the way. Haseley, who had started the previous five games in Omaha as the leadoff hitter and center fielder, had started only four games on the season.
Virginia got all the runs it would need in the 6th inning, as the bottom of the order did the damage. Eighth hitter Ernie Clement started the scoring with an RBI single after Joe McCarthy reached on an error to keep the inning alive. Thomas Woodruff followed with a two-run single to make it 3-0.
Kevin Kugler and Scott Graham called the action from TD Ameritrade Park.
