CHARLOTTE – Cam Newton threw a pair of touchdown passes and dove acrobatically into the end zone on a touchdown run as the Carolina Panthers downed the Houston Texans 24-17 on Sunday.
Newton was 18 of 37 for 195 yards and added another 76 yards on the ground – including a two-yard score in the third quarter when he flipped head-over-heels on the way over the goal line.
Carolina improved to 2-0 on the season. Houston dropped to 0-2.
John Sadak and Mark Malone called the action on Westwood One.
