SPOKANE, WA – Octavius Ellis thought he had thrown down a dunk just before the final buzzer to tie the game for his Bearcats and send it into overtime, but after a replay review moments later, officials waved off the basket–ruling the ball was still touching Ellis’s fingers when the final light went on–securing a St. Joseph’s 78-76 win over ninth-seeded Cincinnati by the narrowest of possible margins.
Isaiah Miles gave the the eighth-seeded Hawks the deciding two-point lead when, down by one, he drained a three from the wing with 9 seconds left. He would finish with 19 points and 7 rebounds, to go along with DeAndre’ Bembry’s 23 points and 5 assists for the Atlantic-10 Conference Tournament champions.
Freshman forward Jacob Evans finished with a game-high 26 points and 9 rebounds in the losing effort.
Kevin Calabro and Dan Dicakau called the action on Westwood One Sports.
