Interview: UCLA’s Steve Alford on big-program expectations, coaching his son

MEMPHIS, TN – With rumors and speculation about the future of Steve Alford buzzing around this week, the UCLA head coach is doing his best to ignore all of the distractions and instead focus on his third-seeded Bruins’ challenge at-hand: a huge Sweet Sixteen matchup with second-seeded Kentucky.

Above everything else, Alford seems to be soaking up and enjoying the experience of coaching his son, Bryce–who is closing-out a terrific Westwood career in his own right–and a group of seniors that have continued to gel with freshman stars Lonzo Ball and TJ Leaf as the season has gone on.

PJ Carlesimo caught up with Steve Alford ahead of the game.
