KANSAS CITY, MO (10/31/11) – The Kansas City Chiefs snatched an overtime victory over San Diego on Monday Night Football by a final score of 23-20, thanks in large part to a bad exchange between quarterback and center when the Chargers was just seconds away from lining up for a potential game-winning field goal of their own.
San Diego had a first down at the Chiefs’ 15 with less than a minute to go and Kansas City out of timeouts. But Philip Rivers was unable to handle the snap and Kansas City recovered.
After San Diego went three-and-out on the first possession of overtime, the Chiefs drove 74 yards in 14 plays to set up Ryan Succop’s game-winning 30-yard field goal.
The result creates a three-way tie atop the AFC West, with Oakland, the Chiefs and the Chargers all with identical 4-3 records.
Kevin Harlan and Boomer Esiason called the action on Westwood One Sports.
