GREENSBORO, NC – Entering Friday, the NCAA Tournament had not seen a 15-seed defeat a 2-seed in over a decade.
Now, it’s happened twice within a span of four hours.
On the heels of Norfolk State’s shocking win over Missouri, a fellow 15-seed in the form of Patriot League champion Lehigh has followed suit, defeating 2nd-seeded Duke in the Blue Devils’ home state of North Carolina, by a 75-70 final.
C.J. McCollum delivered a monster performance for the Mountain Hawks, with 30 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Gabe Knutson added 17 points and 8 rebounds for Lehigh. Mason Plumlee recorded a double-double for Duke, with 21 points and 11 rebounds, while freshman Austin Rivers added 19 points.
Lehigh will meet Xavier in the 3rd round on Sunday.
Gary Cohen and Reid Gettys called the action on the Westwood One Radio Network.
