PITTSBURGH, PA – East Region top seed Syracuse survived a scare from 16-seed UNC-Asheville, escaping with a 72-65 win in the 2nd round of the NCAA Tournament.
James Southerland scored 15 points off the bench to lead the Orange (32-2), who trailed with under seven minutes remaining in the game. A 1-seed has never lost to a 16-seed in the history of the tournament.
The Bulldogs (24-10) were led by Jaron Lane’s 24 points in defeat.
