NEW ORLEANS, LA – Now one victory away from a national championship, Kentucky’s message is simple: Fear The Unibrow.
Standout freshman Anthony Davis posted game-highs of 18 points, 14 rebounds and 5 blocked shots, in leading the Wildcats past bitter, in-state rival Louisville by a 69-61 final. Kentucky is now one victory away from their first national title since 1998.
Darius Miller scored 13 points and Doron Lamb added 10, as the Wildcats shot a blistering 57.1% from the field. But Louisville was able to stay within striking distance in the second half thanks to the play of Peyton Siva and Chane Behanan, who combined for 21 points. Gorgui Dieng also scored 7 points and hauled down 12 rebounds for the Cardinals. But despite attempting 20 more field goals than the Wildcats, Louisville could only manage to hit 34.8% of their shots, as Kentucky was eventually able to pull away late in the game.
UK head coach John Calipari will take another crack at winning his first national championship, after falling short in 2008 as the head coach at Memphis, when his team failed to hold a late lead and eventually lost to Kansas in overtime.
Kevin Kugler, Bill Raftery and John Thompson called the action on the Westwood One Radio Network.
