NEW ORLEANS, LA – Make no mistake, Kansas is no longer the school Roy Williams walked away from. It is the school where Bill Self continues to build his own, unmistakeable legacy.
Even after Kansas won the national championship in 2008, many Jayhawk faithful were still stinging from the legendary Williams packing his bags to return to his alma mater at North Carolina. But with a few more years of sustained success under his belt – not to mention a victory over Williams’ Tar Heels in the Midwest Regional final – Self is finally getting his due recognition as one of the truly elite coaches in all of college basketball.
Self is two wins away from a second national title in five seasons, as he will look to lead the Jayhawks past Ohio State in the national semifinals.
Jim Gray caught up with the Kansas head coach preceding the Jayhawks’ showdown with the Buckeyes.
