PORTLAND, OR – There will not be another magical run to the Final Four this season for the VCU Rams, thanks to the continuing re-emergence of an historic college basketball program.
Will Sheehey buried a baseline jumper with 11 seconds remaining, and a last-second three-point attempt by VCU fell short, as Indiana came back from nine points down in the second half to earn a 63-61 victory, and their first trip to the Sweet 16 since 2002.
Big Ten Freshman of the Year Cody Zeller scored 16 points and pulled down 13 rebounds, with Christian Watford also adding 16 for the Hoosiers. Bradford Burgess came off the bench to score 15 points for VCU, who appeared poised to make another deep NCAA Tournament run before surrendering their nine-point lead in the second half.
Kevin Calabro and Bill Frieder called the action on the Westwood One Radio Network.
