OKLAHOMA CITY — Arizona State and fellow Pac-12 rivals Cal have earned their way into Sunday’s national semifinals at the Women’s College World Series – while South Florida, Tennessee, LSU and Oregon are heading home.
On a busy Saturday that featured four elimination games, LSU started the day by sending South Florida packing with a 1-0 victory. The Tigers later suffered the same fate after getting routed by Arizona State 6-0.
On the other side of the bracket, Oregon defeated Tennessee 3-1 to end the Volunteers’ hopes of a national championship. That moved the Ducks into a showdown with top-seeded Cal, who jumped out to a big lead early and then held on for a 6-3 win.
Arizona State moves on to play Oklahoma on Sunday, while Cal will take on 2nd-seeded Alabama. Both the Sun Devils and the Golden Bears will need two wins on Sunday to make the championship series. The Sooners and Crimson Tide need just a single victory to make the best-of-three finals by virtue of their perfect 2-0 starts in OKC. Click here for the latest bracket from NCAA.com.
The survivors of Sunday’s action will move on to play for the NCAA title in the championship series, which will be broadcast live on the Westwood One / NCAA Radio Network on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday (if necessary).
Kevin Kugler and Leah Amico will have all of the action of the championship series beginning each night at 7:45 PM Eastern. You’ll be able to hear every pitch on a local affiliate near you, streaming right here on WestwoodOneSports.com and on NCAA.com, and on the Slacker Mobile app for iOS and Android.
