Trent Green on Cardinals-Rams on TNF

10/04/2012

Week 5 of the NFL season kicks off tonight as the St. Louis Rams host the unbeaten Arizona Cardinals. Our TNF analyst Trent Green filed this report:

Change of Attitude:

Jeff Fisher was brought in as head coach of the Rams because he is a proven winner and because of his hard-nosed approach to winning football games. He believes in running the football (nice to have Steven Jackson) and playing fast, aggressive defense. The Rams have not had a winning season since 2003 and the Cardinals have won 7 straight in St. Louis and 10 of 11 overall, so it won’t be easy. But if the first four weeks of the season are any indication, Coach Fischer has already changed the attitude and his Rams are playing hungry.

Who is Kevin Kolb?

After another inconsistent showing during the preseason, Kevin Kolb was relegated to back-up behind John Skelton to start the season. After Skelton was hurt in the opener against Seattle, Kolb stepped in and brought the Cardinals back to victory. After a 4-0 start and some gutsy plays by Kolb in the clutch, the Cardinals may finally have the Kevin Kolb they thought they signed in 2011. As a quarterback, when the huddle and the guys in your locker room start believing in what you’re doing, it is your responsibility to grab hold of that and lead them. That is what Kolb is starting to do.

Kicking Excellence:

When you break down these two teams, they are very evenly matched in virtually every category. So this game could easily be decided by special teams – which, by the way, is how the Rams scored all of their points last week. That leads me to the Cardinals’ Jay Feely, who is 7 for 7 on FGs this season, and rookie Greg Zuerlein of the Rams, who is 12 for 12 – including makes from 56, 58 and 60 yards. When you look back at the four games played by both teams, it’s not much of a stretch to think that one of these kickers will be putting their 100% conversion rate on the line to decide this ball game.
