Keys Rewind: The SEC Championship

12/03/2012

Each week, we’ll look back on what our expert analysts thought each team needed to do to secure victory in our NCAA Football broadcasts, brought to you by Pennzoil.

  • December 1st – Halftime score: Alabama 10 – Georgia 7

(Listen to Terry Donahue’s Keys to the Second Half from our broadcast)

Georgia: Terry said it was important for the Bulldogs to get Todd Gurley the ball on the ground to open up the passing game for Aaron Murray.

Georgia Verdict: Gurley was a beast in the second half, rushing the ball 15 times for 76 yards and two touchdowns as the Bulldogs nearly got the victory.

Alabama: For the Crimson Tide, Terry said intensity and an elimination of mistakes would make Alabama a winner.

Alabama Verdict: A major mistake midway through the third quarter nearly cost Alabama dearly, as Alec Ogletree returned a blocked field goal 55 yards to put Georgia up 21-10. But the Tide rallied, first through T.J. Yeldon’s TD and two-point conversion, which set the stage for a wild finish. You’d have to search for quite some time to find a quarter of football that could be described as more intense than the fourth quarter of Saturday’s game. Alabama struck first on Eddie Lacy’s 1-yard TD run to go up 25-21, before Gurley answered for the ‘Dawgs. It all set up AJ McCarron’s epic toss to Amari Cooper with 3:15 remaining. Georgia did get a final shot, but time ran out an all-time classic as Alabama heads back to the BCS title game.

Final score: Alabama 32 – Georgia 28
