AUBURN HILLS, MI – A highly-anticipated matchup of prolific guards never materialized, but Michigan was nonetheless able to pull away from South Dakota State in the second half for a 71-56 victory.
The backcourt battle between the Wolverines’ Trey Burke and the Jackrabbits’ Nate Wolters fell flat, as the two sharpshooting guards were a combined 5-for-26 from the field. But Michigan’s versatility enabled them to overcome an off-night from the Big Ten Player of the Year, as Tim Hardaway, Jr. and Glenn Robinson III each scored a game-high 21 points.
Tom McCarthy and Kelly Tripucka called the action on Westwood One Sports.
