OMAHA, NE – Creighton began life in the Big East in impressive fashion, racing out to a huge early lead and never giving Marquette a chance in a 67-49 victory on New Year’s Eve.
The Bluejays were led by Doug McDermott, who scored 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Jahenns Manigat added 16 points as well in the victory, which marked Creighton’s first game in the new-look Big East after making the jump from the Missouri Valley in the offseason.
Marquette shot just 36 percent from the field in defeat.
Kevin Kugler and Kevin Grevey called the action on WestwoodOne Sports.
