ST. LOUIS, MO – For the first time in 23 years, a team will enter the NCAA Tournament with a perfect record as Wichita State completed a 34-0 season with an 83-69 victory over Indiana State in the Missouri Valley championship game on Sunday.
The Shockers were paced by Fred VanVleet, who scored 22 points. Tekele Cotton added 20 and Ron Baker had 14 as Wichita State became the first team since UNLV’s 1990-91 team to enter the tournament without a loss. It was also the Shockers first MVC tournament championship since 1987.
Wayne Larrivee and Bill Frieder called the action on WestwoodOne Sports.
