SAINT LOUIS, MO – After a slow start in the opening five minutes, Wichita State went on a 24-3 run and then never looked back, rolling to a 64 – 37 victory over Cal Poly.
Cleanthony Early led the Shockers with 23 points and 7 rebounds, while Fred VanFleet recorded 8 assists.
Maliik Love scored 9 points off the bench for the Mustangs, who just could not seem to find any offensive flow, perhaps feeling the drain of a quick turnaround from Tuesday night’s first round win over Texas Southern.
The Midwest Region’s top seed advances to play the winner of Kansas State and Kentucky on Sunday.
Kevin Kugler and Jim Jackson called the action on WestwoodOne Sports.
