SAINT LOUIS, MO – Eastern Kentucky gave Kansas all they could handle, and even held the lead with under nine minutes left in the second half, before the superior size and depth of the second seed helped the Jayhawks pull away late, closing out the fifteenth-seeded Colonels 80 – 69.
Freshman guard Andrew Wiggins led the Jayhawks with 19 points, while Perry Ellis and Jamari Traylor each recorded double-doubles.
Glenn Closey led the effort for the Colonels, scoring 17 points on 5-of-11 shooting from behind the arc, while playing all forty minutes.
Kansas advances to face tenth-seeded Stanford in a Third Round matchup on Sunday.
Kevin Kugler and Jim Jackson called the action on WestwoodOne Sports.
