MILWAUKEE, WI – What started out as a tight battle turned into the Elgin Cook show, as Oregon cruised to an 87 – 68 victory over BYU, in a rematch of an overtime December contest.
The Cougars just had no defensive answer for Cook, who came off the bench to pour in a career-high 23 points on 8-of-9 shooting to go with 8 rebounds. The Duck’s sophomore forward was clearly fueled by playing in front of his hometown fans at the Bradley Center. The Ducks were also paced by 19 points from Joseph Young, on a mostly quiet day for star forward, Mike Moser.
BYU was led by Tyler Haws’s 19 points. Eric Mika and Matt Carlino each also contributed 15 points for the Cougars, despite a rough shooting day for the latter.
Oregon advances to the Third Round to face second-seeded Wisconsin in a virtual road game on Saturday.
Wayne Larrivee and Kelly Tripucka called the action on WestwoodOne Sports.
