MILWAUKEE, WI – Cameron Ridley was Johnny-on-the-Spot, picking up Jonathan Holmes’s long miss off the floor and laying it in off the glass to beat the buzzer and give Texas a hard-fought 87-85 victory over scrappy Arizona State.
Texas maintained a multiple possession lead for most of the game, but Arizona State never went away, finally tying the score at 80 on a Jermaine Marshall three-pointer with 3:20 left in the second half.
It was a high-scoring affair, with six Longhorns and four Sun Devils all scoring in double figures. Ridley’s 17 points and 12 rebounds paced the Longhorns, while his counter-part, center Jordan Bachynski, led the way for the Sun Devils with 25 points.
Texas will go on to face second-seeded Michigan in a Midwest Regional Third Round matchup on Saturday.
Wayne Larrivee and Kelly Tripucka called the action on WestwoodOne Sports.
