SAN DIEGO, CA – Gonzaga overcame a physical Oklahoma State team (and a torrent of whistles) to advance to the third round with an 85-77 victory. The eighth-seeded Bulldogs were led by Kevin Pangos with 26 points, while Przemek Karnowski controlled the paint with 15 points and 10 rebounds for Gonzaga.
Marcus Smart scored 23 alongside 13 rebounds in the losing effort, as he and the ninth-seeded Cowboys were frequently stymied by fouls and stoppages. Officials called 61 fouls in the game, just seven off the all-time tournament record. Gonzaga advances to face top-seeded Arizona on Saturday.
Dave Sims and Bill Frieder called the action on WestwoodOne Sports.
