OMAHA, NE – In the highest-scoring College World Series game ever played at TD Ameritrade Park, Vanderbilt captured Game One 9-8 in a wild affair that lasted nearly four hours.
The Cavaliers got out to a 2-0 lead early, but the Commodores answered with nine runs in the third inning.
After that, it was all Virginia as they chipped away at a seven-run deficit. The best chance to erase it completely came in the eighth, as the tying run was stranded at third base with two outs.
Kevin Kugler and Scott Graham called the action from TD Ameritrade Park.
