OMAHA, NE – For yet another year, No. 1 seeds escaped their opening games unscathed with Wisconsin’s 86-72 victory against Coastal Carolina. The Chanticleers put a scare in Virginia last year as a 16-seed, but were never in the conversation against the Big Ten champs in Omaha on Friday night.
Big Ten Player of the Year Frank Kaminsky had 27 points and 12 rebounds for the Badgers, who now advance to face eighth-seeded Oregon in the Round of 32 on Sunday.
Warren Gillis scored 22 for Coastal Carolina in the loss, while Sam Dekker poured in 20 for Wisconsin.
Kevin Kugler and Will Perdue called the action on Westwood One Sports.
